Not exactly adventure per se

Just a pile of work.
We have a cabin near town that needs a new roof on it, and with winter starting to close down, we figured it would be wise to get all the material in to it now before the snow goes, as we don't have road access.  So, Friday was spent gathering material, loading up, and getting out to the cabin.  Kilrich (local building material vendor) also brought out a truck load of material to add to the pile of timbers and T&G flooring I had on the tralier.
This all had to go in the .6Km to the site by snowmobile.

2x10x16' rafters made for some awkward loads.

The pile grows larger.
What I had foreseen taking the better part of 2 days actually was completed in one, and by 7PM Saturday evening, the huge pile of material was safely tarped up at the site.  That left Sunday free for cutting and hauling firewood to add to the existing pile.

Wood=good.

The view from our deck.
So now with that out of the way, the rest of the spring is free for other, less tedious endevours.

The days are just packed.

Sunny weather and cool overnight temps promised bomber sled trails, and they were!
Grabbed Kona and headed out to Cantlie lake, again!  Trail was in fantastic shape, took about 4 hours round trip.
Had the new Lumix LX3 along so played with it a bit.
Its a pretty cool little camera.

Always hard to get any detail with a furry dog thats black as night.

The trail out from Cantlie is a hoot.  A long, twisty, bermed masterpiece for fat bikes.
A bit of a grind in, but the ride out is everything we ride bikes for.

Until Kona grows opposable thumbs, no picture of me.

Official get psyched for summer post

Right.  Since my new camera hasn't shown up yet, I'm image-less from a nice ride into Cantlie Lake yesterday.  Took Kona and an energy bar and off we went.
However, that doesn't do much for the reader, so, here is a quick photo essay of a nice trip myself and 2 friends took to "Slice" mountain.  Whether thats its name or not is unknown.  Hell, the whole Yukon is made up of unamed features.
Its down at the South end of Kusawa Lake, and if you have never been down that way, you owe it to yourself to  make the trip.  Outstanding.  Magnificent.  These words and more can be used to describe that neck of the woods.  Its a bit of a chore to get there, especially if you don't have a boat.  Easy access alpine, great beaches, good rock climbing (more or less untouched).
Looking up the lake to Ark Mountain.

Oh yeah!

Looking towards Slice mountain.

The rock actually leaves alot to be desired quality wise, cool to look at though.

On the way out.

Summers coming.........

Bail bail!

This photo kind of sums up todays fun and games
Tony and I were off to ride the Fish Lake/Alligator loop and the weather looked promising.  We ran the shuttle, headed up to Fish lake, and were rocked by the gusts as we suited up and headed off up the lake.

Like I said, it looked great.

Tony finding his own happy place.

After battling the maelstrom for an hour or so, and losing whatever trail there was, we grew tired of it all and found shelter in a cabin where we ate our chocolate and basked in the warm sunshine streaming through the windows.  We are so weak.

The blowing snow looked nicer from in here.

Then we hopped back on the bikes and roared back down the lake, surprising some dog mushers with our unlikely presence.
The weather looks to be solid for the next week or so, so hopefully we can get this trip wrapped up soon.

When the weather's this good, not riding's a crime

Well, not just riding.
The great weather continues, and snow promised last week never materialzed.  Not so great for skiing, but the sled/dog sled trails have stayed very good to excellent.
Friday dawned clear and sunny, so a big ride in the backcountry beckoned.  Sadly, no other Pugsley could come out to romp, so it was a solo mission to Alligator Lake.  Alligator lake is one of those rides that, in the summer, are not really worth doing, although it is quite lovely.  Lots of mud holes negates the fun factor.  Winter is another matter.  A fantastic snowmobile/dog sled trail takes you right to the lake.  Its 25 Km in, with an elevation gain of ~ 1000'.

Right from the start, it was obvious that it was going to be a great ride.  Some sort of dog sled had been in ahead of me, and had laid down an amazingly smooth groove that made the riding like being on pavement.  It was that good.

Once you hit Two Horse creek, its a long climb to the alpine, but keep that climb in mind for later...

Once I got up higher, it was obvious that there was heaps of snow about.  Not a bad view either.

This view is looking towards the North, there is a trail heading up that valley that connects to Fish Lake.  The trail was in and looked in great shape.  Next week??  It was pretty tempting to head that way and make a long day of it, but no one was expecting me out that way, so I decided to stay safe and keep to the plan.
Wahoo!!

Every great ride has some pushing.

Jet Fuel!

Basking in the spring sun.

Feeding Grey Jays is good karma.

The obligatory bike shot.

Looking home, and the great ride back.

The downhill parts were a hell of a lot of fun.  The big tires just ate it all up.  Yee-haw!!!!!!!!!!!

Lions and Tigers and Bears......

Or not.
My buddy in Ontario sent me this picture of his encounter on his Sunday morning ride.
I've run into Bears, Moose, Wolves, Weasels, but Camels??

Now, is it a Bactrian or Dromedary?
